1934, from Niuafoou, Tin Can Island to San Francisco, 2d purple and black Queen Salote definitive tied by circular TONGA cancel, carried via Tin Can Mail with large violet TIN CAN MAIL handstamp on front, additionally red boxed DISPATCHED BY TIN CAN CANOE MAIL and circular NIUAFOOU TONGA DEC 22 1934 in red, plus boxed violet NIUAFOOU cachet, reverse shows printed decorative framed inscription ORIGINAL TIN CAN CANOE MAIL COVER signed by W. G. Quensell, this form of transport required mail to be sealed in tins and paddled through surf to/from passing ships, a uniquely Pacific postal tradition only used on Niuafoou, highly collectible and classic Tin Can Mail item, ex Kugel, SUP!
