Pioneers on reverse, mailed during the early phase of the British
diplomatic and military mission to Tibet under Col. Younghusband,
sent via the rarely used temporary post office operated by the
British Frontier Commission at Gangtok in Sikkim, which served only
a few months in 1903 to support the advance party negotiating
Tibetan boundary issues, rare and desirable historical context at
